4.     In ancient times how were building materials chosen?

In ancient times buildings where constructed out of the material that the builders had at hand so you would not see structures made out of wood in the dersert.

1.) Mud buildings in the desert
2.) Limestone structures in Greece

6.     Name and describe the type of system used to create many early buildings.

The ancient Romans used archs in many of their buildings. The reason for this is because it was a curved structure that could span an opening and support a vertical load primarily by axial compression.

7.     What was the purpose of the Egyptian pyramids? Mexican pyramids?

To house the dead bro and for cermonal purposes.

8.     What kind of construction method was used to build the Parthenon? Made a simple sketch to illustrate.

With all the support from the colomns ,the roof would cave in.

Build a half circle frame and put the bricks around the frame work.

The vault allows for the construction of bridges, walkways, and other passages.

13.  Give an example of a modern material we have that was not available to the ancients. How did this restrict construction in ancient times?

Steel was not available to the ancients this limited them on how tall and how strong their buildings are.

14.  What was the purpose of the Roman aqueducts?

To bring water from the fresh water springs in the mountains to the roman cities.

15.  Compare ancient Greek roads to ancient Roman roads.

Greek roads were built for transport of goods. Roman roads, however, were built for the transport of troops. You can easily tell the difference because commercial roads run parallel to rivers; military roads cross rivers

16. Describe an ancient Roman bridge.

It is made from archs that span across the river.

17. How did building materials and methods change after the Romans?

Durring the Roman rule roads became paved and they were able to build larger scale structures.

Conclusion

1.     Give an example of a modern pyramid not shown in the presentation. How does its function differ from that of the Egyptian pyramids? What do you think accounts for this difference?

The Luxor Pyramid in Las Vegas serves the purpose of a hotel and casino. We no longer burry our wealthy dead in pyrimids.

3.     What is the main purpose of modern roads? How is the cost of modern roadways defrayed?

To get from one place to another. They get the money to build the roads from our taxs.
